FLASH TRAFFIC

ONCE SOMETHING HAS BEEN POSTED ON THIS WEBSITE, ALL CADETS ARE CONSIDERED OFFICIALLY NOTIFIED AND RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING ALL INFORMATION AND FOLLOWING ALL INSTRUCTIONS.

  • BATTALION COMMUNICATIONS:  There have been issues with some not receiving important communications from the unit. Ben Moreell Battalion/Training Ship Anderson use e-mail lists (called DISTRO lists in the military) to keep its membership informed of important events, policies, etc. Sometimes these messages get mislabelled spam by YOUR e-mail or internet service provider. I have used quite a number of different providers over the years (AOL, Juno, G-mail, Hotmail, Outlook (at work), SBC, AT&T, etc.) and the one thing they all have in common is that while their spam filters generally work reasonably well (some are more sensitive than others), they ALL will occasionally deliver spam to your inbox that should have been filtered out, and ALL will occasionally deliver non-spam that should have gone to your inbox to your spam or junk mail folder. So you all should go to your e-mail box, and check your settings to make sure that you've enabled a spam or junk mail folder (i.e. don't let it just automatically delete everything IT thinks is spam). Then get into the habit of regularly checking your spam or junk mail folder to look for legitimate mail that should have gone to your inbox. The list messages from the unit will be easy to spot; the subject line always starts with the list name in brackets, i.e. [Ben Moreell All Hands], [Ben Moreell Parents], [Ben Moreell Ward Room], etc. If you find one of those in your spam or junk mail folder, select it and click on the Not Spam button (or whatever your e-mail provider calls it). If you have the option, add the list to your whitelist (the list of people you're telling your provider to always accept mail from), but that's not foolproof as I not uncommonly find messages from people I've whitelisted in my spam or junk e-mail folder, and messages from people I blacklisted in my inbox.

  • Fundraiser for the Ben Moreell Battalion & TS Nicholas H. Anderson:  Hey, it's a win-win situation! Support the unit AND the environment by bringing to drill any plastic water/sport drink/soft drink bottles and empty ink jet cartridges that you have at home. If you don't have an ink jet printer of your own, talk to your neighbors and business owners. NOTE: Ink Jet cartridges may not be the refillable kind and laser cartridges are NOT accepted. This opportunity comes thru a company called Recycling Fundraiser. Their link is below if you would like more information about the company. Thank you for your help in supporting our unit. • WELCOME ABOARD:  The following new members came aboard in August 2011:

    • Cadets:  Cadet Allen
    • Staff:  INST Morris

  • SUPPORT THE BEN MOREELL BATTALION & TS NICHOLAS H. ANDERSON:   My name is ENS Julia Merich and I'm the Finance Officer. I hope you are having a wonderful experience with Sea Cadets and Navy League Cadets. Ben Moreell Battalion was commissioned in 1971 and is one of the oldest Sea Cadet units. Our sponsor, the Channel Islands Chapter of the Navy League of the United States, generously gives us a modest amount of money each year. However, the costs associated with running a quality program far exceed this amount. Costs include uniforms, equipment, and other necessary items. The unit also needs money to defray the cost of training for the cadets. I know money is tight for many, especially this time of year. However, would you consider taking the attached letter to a business owner you may know to see if they would be willing to make a tax-deductible donation? Your fellow cadets appreciate your help in this. If you have any ideas for a fundraiser, please share them. Let me know at finance@benmoreellbattalion.org if you have any questions

  • NSCC STUDY REQUIREMENTS:  All NSCC cadets are reminded that they are required to complete at least two BMR or Seaman Assignments between each drill. This is a requirement for promotion, participation in any advanced training, and retention in the program. In addition, remember that you cannot be promoted without a qualified advanced training to match your study guides. Too many cadets are way behind in meeting these requirements. When submitting assignments, all cadets are to follow the procedure specified by the Training Officer. If you are missing course work, please e-mail the Training Officer at nscctraining@benmoreellbattalion.org.

  • PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Ben Moreell Battalion & TS Nicholas H. Anderson always need help to run efficiently. No special skills needed nor time limits or having to formally become an officer just a desire to help one of the best units in the Nation. Please contact the CO for more information.

  • INFORMING OF INTENT TO ATTEND DRILL:  At 1800, the Sunday prior to drill, the LPOs are required to notify the Chain of Command the status of all personnel and if they will be in attendance. In order for this to work Cadets must contact their Squad Leaders! Often times it is the Squad Leader contacting their squad. Cadets need to plan accordingly; if you are not going to home on the Sunday before drill or will not be able to call at that time...then call earlier! Or call the day even week before the reporting requirement. Let's have a perfect reporting this month!

  • DRILL WEEKEND CHECK IN PROCESS:  Effective immediately, the following reporting procedures are now in effect:

    • Staff, Officers, Watch Standers report at 0715

    • Cadets report no later than 0730 and report to the Quarterdeck, present ID card and “request permission to come aboard” (if you are in uniform you salute during the process)

    • Once permission is obtained, secure your bag in the normal location (along the side of the Unit building for Sea Cadets or along the side of the Gym (League Cadets).

    • Report to the Admin Officer which will be at a table within easy sight.

    • Pay your drill fees to the Admin Officer.

    • Turn in your coursework and report cards to the Admin Officer.

    • Turn in any other documentation you were required to bring.

    • When directed, report to the LPO and Yeoman in the Sea Bee Parking lot for muster and colors

  • SHIP'S LOG ENTRIES:  This is a reminder to submit entries for the Ship's Log upon your return from your summer training evolutions.
